Stocking a cooler with cold drinks and picnic-ready sandwiches is the perfect budget-friendly way to prep for a beach trip or day at the park, so it’s a sensible spring investment—but if you already own one, you may want to check the brand, model, and manufacture date before your next outdoor adventure. On February 13, more than one million Igloo rolling coolers were voluntarily recalled due to safety concerns—namely, “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Per the CPSC release, the recall affects Igloo 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers manufactured before January 2024. While the coolers were manufactured in multiple colorways and models, the common tow handle is the cause of the recall: It “can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards,” the release reads. So far, Igloo has received 12 reports of such injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations, according to the release.

The recalled coolers were all marked “IGLOO” and sold from January 2019 through January 2025, according to the release. Priced at between $80 and $140, they were available for purchase at major retail stores like Target, Costco, Academy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites. In total, around 1,060,000 were sold in the US, about 47,000 in Canada, and about 23,000 in Mexico, the release stated.

People who own one of the recalled coolers should “immediately stop using it” and reach out to Igloo for a free replacement handle, according to the CPSC release.
