Your energy drink might be coming with an unintended—and pretty different—kind of kick: A bunch of Celsius cans may actually be filled with vodka seltzer instead. Talk about Freakier Friday, right?
On July 29, High Noon recalled two production lots of the High Noon Beach Variety packs currently on shelves, per an FDA announcement released the next day. High Noon is a company that sells hard seltzers—the 12–pack in question includes peach, lemon, kiwi, and raspberry vodka seltzers—so the fact that some of its packages contain alcohol doesn’t exactly sound like a problem…at first.
The issue? Some of the 12-packs contain cans that are mislabeled as a popular (and nonalcoholic) energy drink: Celsius Astro Vibe, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition. And those are actually filled with High Noon vodka seltzer. As a result, drinking them “will result in unintentional alcohol ingestion,” per the recall notice.
The recall was triggered after High Noon learned that a shared packaging supplier accidentally shipped the empty Celsius energy drink cans to High Noon, which then filled them with vodka seltzer.
According to a statement on the Celsius site, while Celsius was not involved in the production, filling, or distribution of these products, they say they “are working closely with High Noon, GALLO [High Noon’s parent company], the US Food and Drug Administration and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to ensure consumer awareness and safety” and “are actively supporting High Noon’s voluntary recall efforts to best protect consumers.”
There haven’t yet been any reports of illnesses or adverse effects related to the mislabeling, per the FDA announcement.
The affected High Noon Beach Variety packs were shipped to distributors Florida, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. In turn, these distributors shipped the product to retailers in six states: Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The packages were shipped between July 21 and July 23.
So how can you find out if your package of High Noon was affected? Check the lot number on the outside of it. The product has a UPC of 085000040065, and the affected codes are:
L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
But even if you didn’t buy a High Noon Beach Variety pack, the recall advises you to check out your Celsius Astro Vibe, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition can anyway. Affected cans will have a silver lid instead of black, and they contain the following lot code: L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11.
