OnePlus 6T officially unveiled with in-screen fingerprint scanner, dual rear cameras, smaller notch

Arriving after months of speculations and rumors about specs and prices, Chinese phone maker OnePlus finally unveiled its latest flagship, the OnePlus 6T – the OnePlus 6 predecessor packed with amazing specs, similar to leading flagships from the smartphone giants like Apple’s iPhone XS and Samsung’s Galaxy S9 but at almost half the price.

When it comes to appearance, the OnePlus 6T very much looks similar to its predecessor, which was released five months ago in May. Most noticeable differences are the swap of the rear fingerprint reader for a fancy new in-display model, a smaller notch at the top, and the headphone jack has been removed.

The new in-screen fingerprint scanner features a screen unlock technology which uses an optical in-display fingerprint sensor which “lights up the screen to register your fingerprint whenever you press the unlock area.” Although a number of users have already expressed concerns about how effective this feature will be especially with thick screen protector glasses.

The OnePlus 6T has a rich and immersive display, with a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display at a 19.5:9 aspect ratio for great viewing angles. The front of the OnePlus 6T is protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 6, seamlessly flowing into the glass design.

Inside the 6T, the battery capacity has been bumped up to 3,700mAh, with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 coupled with an Adreno 630 GPU and 6 or 8 GB of RAM (depending on the model).

Also revealed, the 6T bundles a dual-camera system on the back, a 16 MP one and a 20 MP with f/1,7 apertures for the main lens, with optical image stabilization and NightScape, a new feature designed to make low-light photographs look better. The cameras also boast of support for AI-based scene detection, Portrait Mode, Pro Mode, Time-Lapse, Studio Lighting, and RAW Image.

Important to note also, is Smart Boost, a new feature of the OnePlus 6T that improves app cold-start speeds by up to 20 percent by storing data from frequently used apps in the phone’s RAM.

The newly announced OnePlus 6T will be available for sale starting November 1 in Midnight Black and Mirror Black, at a starting price of $549 for the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model and $629 for the one with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage space.
